Skill Sets

 

School based Occupational Therapy services are intended to assist students in accessing the curriculum. Skill sets within the domain of occupational therapy include the following:



  • Sensory Processing

  • Fine Motor 

  • Visual Motor/Visual Perceptual

  • Self-help/ADLs

  • Sensorimotor Foundational Skills

Sensory Integration

Sensory Integration refers to how an individual takes in sensory information from their environment, including their own bodies, organizes that information and then plans and executes a purposeful response.

Fine Motor Skills

Fine Motor Skills refers to the isolated use of an individual's hands and wrists for activities and tasks that require precision using the smaller muscles.

Visual Motor Integration Skills

Visual Motor skills refer to a child's ability to correctly perceive visual stimuli and accurately reproduce those stimuli.

Visual Perceptual Skills

Visual Perceptual skills refer to the ability to incorporate and process visual information; to perceive stimuli in forms that are recognized by the brain.

Self-help/Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)

ADLs refer to routine activities that individuals tend to do everyday including but not limited to eating, dressing, toileting and personal belongings manamgement.

Sensorimotor Foundational Skills

Sensorimotor foundational skills refer to such skills and abilities as ranges of motion, strength, muscle tone, ocular motor control, balance, motor planning, bilateral coordination and the mastery of gross motor skills.
